RBI Reopens Urban Cooperative Bank Licensing After 22 Years as New Audit Rules Take Shape
India's central bank is preparing to accept fresh applications for urban cooperative bank (UCB) licences after a gap of about 22 years, pairing the reopening with stricter audit and disclosure rules for cooperative credit societies. According to The Hindu, the Reserve Bank of India's move is intended to let new banks enter on a sound institutional footing rather than simply reopen the door.
