Regulators Step Up Action Against Unauthorised and Impersonation Investment Websites
Abstract:Regulators in Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Australia have issued new warnings and blocking orders against unauthorised investment websites, including cases involving stolen company details, lookalike domains and impersonation.

Financial regulators have issued a fresh round of warnings against online investment platforms, with the latest cases showing a mix of unauthorised financial services, identity misuse and websites presenting themselves as legitimate companies.
The actions span Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Australia. While the individual cases differ, several share the same problem: the website, company name and regulatory identity do not match.
Italy has taken the most direct action, ordering internet providers to block another 11 websites linked to unauthorised financial activity.
The latest orders cover investment platforms, client portals and trading pages, including zynerix.net, rlassetmanagement.com, interactive-inv.com, puprime.com and rocketprobit.com, together with several related domains.
The new round brings the total number of websites blocked by CONSOB since it received these powers in 2019 to 1,816, including 233 sites connected to crypto-related activity.
Unlike a standard regulatory warning, CONSOBs measure directly restricts access to the targeted domains in Italy.
Identity Misuse Appears in Several Recent Warnings
Other regulators are dealing with a more difficult variation of the same problem: websites using the details of real businesses.
Germanys BaFin warned about finanzforensik.com, which offered services claiming to recover crypto assets and transfer funds to wallets or bank accounts.
According to the regulator, the website falsely claimed to cooperate with BaFin. Its operators were neither authorised nor supervised by the regulator.
BaFin also found that the website had used corporate information belonging to a German company in its legal notice without permission.
That detail changes the nature of the risk. The company information itself may be genuine, but the website using it is not connected to that business.
A similar pattern appeared in Switzerland.
FINMA added swissinvestmentsa.ch to its warning list and specifically stated that the website has no connection with a Geneva-registered company carrying a similar name and registration number.
Another newly flagged website, goldprideholdings.com, displayed a Geneva address but had no entry in the Swiss commercial register.
The two cases show two different methods: one website uses a name close to an existing company, while another presents a Swiss address without a corresponding registered entity.
Australia Adds Both Unlicensed and Impersonation Cases
The latest Australian investor alerts include several newly listed entities operating through domains such as ethsol.vip, digitalassetreserves.net, lxtgroup.com, 1888fs.net and novaequityio.com.
ASIC also flagged websites operating under additional names and aliases, suggesting that some operators may move between different identities rather than use a single fixed brand.
One of the more notable cases concerns ausprimecapital.com.au.
ASIC identified the website as an impersonation of an existing Australian financial company. The case is another example of a website using the identity or details of a legitimate business to make an unrelated operation appear credible.
The distinction matters because an investor searching only the company name may find a genuine corporate record and assume the website is connected to it.
The Website and the Licence Need to Match
The latest warnings show why checking a licence number or company name in isolation is no longer enough.
A website can use:
- the name of a registered company;
- a real business address;
- copied corporate information;
- a similar domain;
- or claims of cooperation with a regulator.
None of these details confirms that the website itself is operated by the authorised entity.
For forex and CFD platforms, the domain listed by the regulator should match the website being used. The legal company behind the account should also correspond with the name shown on the licence.
This becomes especially important when a financial group operates several entities or websites across different jurisdictions. A genuine licence held by one company does not automatically cover another domain using a similar name.
Regulatory Action Is Moving Beyond Simple Warning Lists
The latest cases also show that regulators are using different tools depending on the situation.
Italy is actively blocking access to unauthorised websites.
Germany is publicly identifying misuse of company information and false claims of regulatory relationships.
Switzerland is distinguishing suspicious websites from legitimate companies with similar names.
Australia is adding both unlicensed operators and impersonation websites to its investor alert system.
Taken together, the cases show that current online investment risks are increasingly tied to identity and domain verification, not simply whether a platform displays a licence claim.
